Kabylie Music - Moh Alileche

Moh Alileche was born in 1959 in the Kabyle region of Algeria and made his first stringed instrument at the age of nine. The kabylie music star, later learned to play the Spanish guitar and finally the Mondol, a five string instrument preferred by many North African artists. He also added two quarter notes, a technique commonly employed by Kabylie music stars.

Moh began his musical career singing his original pieces in Algeria and was rising in prominence on the national music scene when he came to the United States in 1990. He has since become a familiar face at musical festivals in California.

His first album, Tragedy, was released in 1999. The album, a collection of nine songs based on traditional Kabylie music is a collection of original songs composed between 1979 and 1998, and recorded with a very talented group of back up musicians. Extensive liner notes make the CD a great introduction to the Kabylie musical tradition.
